This is required equipment for NATO Canadian Forces participants.

A minimum of one set of non-cotton long johns or polypro undergarments are required. Remember cotton kills, we will not accept any cotton long johns.

Selecting your long underwear set

The Canadian Forces during this era primarily issued the old waffle style cotton thermal underwear which is unacceptable for East Wind use, however by the early to mid 90's they finally began to issue Canadian issue poly pro. Like so many other items, Canadian soldiers often acquired other armies kit and equipment at their own cost to facilitate their own comfort in the field. It was therefore not unheard of for Canadian troops to use U.S. poly pro as a thermal layer.

At the time, poly pro was almost "magic" in that moisture wicking materials were still very much in their infancy so poly pro was highly prized at the time.
