WARPAC HQ and Support Troops

From Operation East Wind
Jump to: navigation, search

Operation East Wind offers opportunities for those who are interested in a support or non-direct combat role as well. We run a full headquarters, motor vehicle operations and supply section all of which require dedicated and skilled personnel to keep operational.

Headquarters Operations

The Headquarters is staffed and operational 24/7 for the duration of the event. Within the Headquarters there are a myriad of tasks which need to be done.

  • Supply section keeps track of gear getting checked in and out, tracks fuel use, manages consumables, manages the field rations, and works with the section leaders to insure that they get the mission critical gear they need. Supply section members should have decent mechanical aptitude and excellent attention to detail.
  • Operations section works with the Company Commander to determine the overall company operational plan. This primarily involves direct mission planning at the Company level and assisting individual sections with developing their missions as well as keeping track of the progress and status of units in the field. Operations also works with the section leaders who are on HQ/watch rotation and is charged with maintaining the Company communications network. Operations section members should have a strong understanding of the Combat Orders process as well as communications systems.
  • Intel section works with the operations section to build the intel picture of the battle space. This includes debriefing units returning from missions, tracking known enemy units and movements, mapping known obstacles, mapping mine fields, tracking weather, sun/moon data, classifying routes, developing likely enemy courses of action, and assisting squad and section leaders by providing up to date and accurate information about the area of operations they will be stepping into. Intel section members should have excellent attention to detail, good drawing skills, and be able to piece together a big picture out of many small snippets of information.

Motor Pool Operations

We have a fairly extensive motor pool at East Wind events. All of the vehicles present belong to attendees and are maintained by their owners during the event. In most cases, the owners are capable mechanics and vehicles show up to the event in good order and able to operate in the environment. In some cases they are not or vehicles suffer failures beyond the immediate capabilities of of their owners. We have, in the past, dealt with this internally as best we can but forsee in the future adding a light motor pool staff to assist owners with keeping vehicles operational as well as helping the HQ personnel manage vehicle dispatch and providing dedicated drivers where needed for certain missions.

  • Motor Pool Praporshik

The Motor Pool Praporshik would be tasked with insuring that vehicles are mission capable, that owners/operators are performing their PMCS, and that where ever possible bigger problems are headed off and solved while they are still small problems. The Motor Pool Praporshikis not there to be "the mechanic" he is there to make sure that the owners are being the mechanic and to assist with skills and knowledge where needed. Note that Motor Pool Praporshik is not a position you are likely to get if you do not have significant experience working on military vehicles.

  • Wheeled Vehicle Driver

The wheeled vehicle driver would be tasked with driving various wheeled vehicles in support of troops in the field during both daylight and night time (black out) operations. The wheeled vehicle driver must be proficient in off road driving, a careful driver, and be able to drive in all weather/lighting conditions. Experience driving with night vision and/or under blackout conditions is a big plus. The wheeled vehicle driver will almost certainly find him or herself in combat conditions and should be prepared to fight when needed. Note that wheeled vehicle drive is not a position you are likely to get if you do not have significant experience driving military vehicles.

Gear Requirements for HQ/Support Personnel

While some of the equipment on the list may not seem to have immediate value, it is not just for the sake of realism or re-enacting. All the equipment is designed to work as a system, with other people's gear, and with the heavy equipment we provide.

Before being sure you have all of this stuff, be sure to read the list of items that you cannot bring.
